Life After A Diagnosis

Getting a diagnosis can be a mixture of emotions.

An initial reaction for some can be one of relief, especially if the process for gaining a diagnosis has been a long one.

For some the initial reaction can be one of dread or overwhelming loss.

For some it can be one of a death sentence hanging over their head, waiting for the inevitable day where that illness wins.

The pattern of emotions for all however remains similar. Grief and feelings of Loss, Depression, lack of Motivation, lowered Self Esteem and Stress. Anger, Frustration, Worry, Guilt and Sadness are all common emotions.

For some, every symptom following a life threatening phase with a condition can instil a fear and panic of that event or illness returning. In the event of getting a cold, rash, headache or any other "everyday" illness, the fear of that critical phase or illness returning can be devastating. It can lead you back at the start of the grieving process and leave you once again making plans for loved ones without you.

This process can be felt and seen in cycles many years after the event, but the fear remains deep rooted and successful planning for the future hindered. It can destroy relationships and leave you feeling unsupported, frustrated, isolated, guilty and lost.
