Workplace Stress

At work, stress can result when occupational pressures, e.g. demands⁄overload, constant change or poor communications⁄ relationships, conspire to overwhelm a team or an individual employee.

This is a serious problem which is currently estimated to cost the nation £9 billion per year.

At present, employers are under increasing pressure (from the Law, EU regulations, the HSE and the Trades Unions) to attend to the duty of care which they must demonstrate towards all employees: this duty of care extends not only to personal safety, but also to the mental wellbeing and welfare of all employees.

This is not to suggest that employees are actively maltreated within the workplace, but represents an awareness that very real pressures to deliver (e.g. success, profit, reward or high service expectation) are now exerted in the world of work which were not previously so pronounced.

A Worldwide Epedemic

Stress accounts for 40% of the western worlds sick-leave with the numbers rising.

World Health Organization calls stress "A world-wide epidemic". In Japan there is even a word for occupational sudden death, karoushi, which translates as "death from overwork" Extensive research is going on to understand the phenomenon of stress.

Stress is not the problem so much as the individual response, which makes stress very difficult to pinpoint and treat. On top of that we are amazingly good at adaptation. We adapt until we crash.

Stress Has A Negative Impact

Work-related stress accounts for over one-third of all new incidences of ill health in the UK.

Each of these incidences results in an average of 30.2 working days lost.

In 2006/2007 nearly 13.8 million working days were lost as a result of work-related stress, depression and anxiety!

Stress is a normal part of living, but when pressures of work become overwhelming it can cause a decrease in productivity and problem-solving abilities; and, an increase in employee absenteeism and work-related illnesses.

Possible Consequences For Businesses

Work-related stress causes an increase in sick days and absenteeism, a higher turnover of staff and a drop in productivity.

Some of the possible consequences of work-related stress for the individual include:

  • • Increased susceptibility to workplace accidents
  • • Deterioration of personal relationships
  • • Ill-health, including an increased risk of cardiovascular disease
  • • Workplace aggression and violence

How Namasté Can Help

As an employer, you want your employees to be able to perform at their best.

By providing the opportunity for employees to receive Reiki you are showing that you value your workers and want to ensure their health and well being as directed under the Health and Safety at Work regulations 1999 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

We at Namasté have been trained to the highest level as a Reiki Masters. As such we are able to provide Reiki healing sessions as well as teaching others.

We are able to come into your work place to provide Reiki sessions for your employees.

Ideally this would take place in a quiet room, but we can provide Reiki directly at an employee's desk. We are also available to provide ½ day seminars in Reiki, Level 1 to teach employee's how to treat themselves with Reiki.

The benefit here is that at the same time, they will be learning ways to manage their own stress and self-treat stress-related illnesses without external assistance.

During a 2 hour block of time at your business we would be able to see between 4 and 8 clients, depending upon the length of each session.

Each session will last 15 minutes or 30 minutes, depending up the wishes and needs of the worker.
